Vornado air purification product that they have is not the best out there for the price. It’s hard to compare when a company only has one version of a product, and it lacks performance. Many people don’t know much about this air purifier, but I am still wondering when it will be upgraded.
The Vornado AC500 Whole Room Air Purifier uses true HEPA filtration, one of the most effective filters available, to remove up to 99.97% of airborne allergens down to .3 micron. The Vornado Whole Room Air Purifier actively circulates and filters all the air throughout a room. Without circulation, the air cleaner is only cleaning the immediate area around the unit, relying on a general motion to push air through the premises. The AC500 uses two combination HEPA/carbon filters to trap Dust, Pollen, Pet Dander, Smoke, Bacteria, Mold Spores, Dust Mites and more. The carbon pre-filters both absorbs odors and traps larger particles. When in ‘auto mode’, advanced dust sensing technology detects the level of dust in a room, fluctuating the cleaning cycle up or down, depending on the air quality.
Specifications
Below, I will list the specs of the only Vornado air purifier available at this moment in time. I will provide you will positive, and negative information so remembers to think about what your real needs are when it comes to air purification.
–Electrostatic Purification
-3 Speed Fan
-Air Filters
Electrostatic Purification
You may have heard of this type of air purifier and put it in line with ionic air purifiers, but that is not entirely correct. This technology charges the dust as it comes in and then immediately catches it on collector plates that usually need to be cleaned every two weeks. This technology does not let the charged particles stick to all the surfaces of your house like ionic air purifiers, and ozone generators are capable of doing. You can learn more at do ionic air purifiers work?
3 Speed Fan
A three-speed fan is just a three-speed fan. You must realize that most claims by these air cleaners even the excellent ones are with the fan at max speed, which gives them the high rate of air changes per hour. Nothing is wrong with this, but many people don’t like the sound of the device when it is this high and will not run it at these rates of speed so you should not expect to reach that amount of air purification.
Air Filter
My biggest concern with Vornado is their air filters. As I stated early, Vornado air purifiers are good for dust and pollen, but bad for everything else (smoke, bacteria, mold, etc. Pretty much anything that is below 1 micron in size. The reason for this is their choice of air filters!
Low Maintenance
This air purifier may have four filters to change but changing them is easy and convenient. Keeping it clean is not a problem since it is coated with a black finish, you will not have to worry that it will stain over the years. All you have to do is wipe it with a clean cloth and you are done. This is what makes this air purifier because you will never have to clean it regularly. It works efficiently in a room with 335 square feet in area or less.
Noise Level
It works quietly if set in low setting but expects a rather loud sound in the high setting. It may not be as noisy as other heavy air purifiers, but you can hear the sound it generates. This may be a problem for those with babies or children or if used during sleeping time. If the noise level disturbs you, you can set it to high setting when you are away so once you get home the air is clean, and you can set it to low.
No Handle
Transferring the Vornado AC500 True HEPA Air Purifier from one place to another can be a struggle because it has no handles or wheels for easier and convenient transport. Though this air purifier is not that heavy, it is possible that it may slip off from your hands while holding or moving it.
No Remote Control
Yes, this air purifier has the latest technology, but it lacks remote control for a more convenient and easier usage. Remote control can be handy if the air purifier is placed somewhere out of your reach.
High Power Consumption
Since the product has no eco mode or is not an energy rated product, you may notice that your energy consumption has increased. Though insignificantly, this is still a factor that needs to be mentioned in this review. Many air purifier users will tell you that this is something true in all kinds of purifiers.

Summary
Overall, Vornado AC500 True HEPA Air Purifier is a great buy for households that need to eliminate all the airborne contaminants and allergens that threaten the family’s health. It is important that every household is aware of the potential risks of these contaminants and how they can significantly affect the way of living. It has a dusting sensor for a thorough and efficient allergen removal, a filter replacement indicator for a better air purifying and a sleep mode feature perfect for a good night sleep.
The Prozone Purifier is more than an air purifier. This unique device destroys biological and chemical pollutants in the air and eliminates the odors that come from those contaminants — yet it does not give off any harmful by-products. It simply cannot be compared to filters and ionizers that just attract and hold pollutants and pathogens.
The Prozone Purifier eliminates odors and destroys viruses, bacteria, smoke, chemicals and so much more, for the best outdoor air imaginable inside!
Prozone Air Purifiers Information
They have two different prozone air purifiers that they sell. One is the one is the prozone pz6, which is a room air purifier and the other is the prozone twister, which is more of a pure ozone generator. Ironically, the pz6 is a better product because it is capable of handling a room very well, but the twister has a hard time controlling a whole house through the ventilation system without actually being in the air ducts.
There are no filters or plates to clean or replace and the unit is almost entirely silent when in operation. Maintenance consists of occasionally removing dust from the fan vent with a vacuum or a can of compressed air.
The Lamp is the central feature of this unit’s operation and has a lifespan of 20,000 hours. If you run this Prozone air purifier 24 hrs a day, the lamp will last well over two years.
Installation is just placing the unit where you want it and plugging it in. The best results are obtained when the air cleaner is positioned high in a room such as on the top of a refrigerator or the top shelf of a bookcase. It can be moved from room to room though many users choose to add several units and keep them running continuously.
When you switch the PZ6-A Prozone air purifier on a small light, indicate the unit is operating and a crisp, clean scent is soon apparent in the room. The ozone produced is 100% pure, and there are no nitrogen by-products released into your home.
One of the things that concern me the most is the wording in the product manuals. The Prozone pz6 states if you have a severe respiratory illness like asthma you should consult a physician before using this product. You would think prozone air purifiers would be helping with the problem.
Prozone Twister
The Prozone Twister is even scarier after the fact that they state it is safe ozone they only allow you to run it 15 minutes an hour for their timed intervals. You can run in “Continuous Ozone Output” mode, but they state it should only be used if people will not be continually present. That does not sound safe to me! It also shows they have no faith that their product will not hurt you!
Designed for larger rooms and offices, the Twister goes a step beyond air purification by destroying chemical and biological pollutants in the air. One unit will treat the air in a 3000 sq ft home and place it in front of the cold air return for your furnace will help clean the ductwork of your heating and cooling system.
The Twister Prozone air purifiers are perfect for use by businesses where the air needs to be continually cleaned of cigarette smoke or body odors.

IQ Air cleaners are on the top of the list because of their superior technology and construction. They also use the best air filters on the market and use the most amount of air cleaner media. With this kind of combination, it is hard to be beaten in the air purifier marketplace. They have received more awards than any other air purifier and for good reason. Of course, if your wallet is a little dry in this economy you will have a hard time coming to terms with the price of this air purifier, but you cannot deny its performance.
Besides being the pick of the litter when it comes to home air purifiers the IQ Air health pro plus has great things being used inside it to make it the best available for you within your home. You will find four different levels of air filtration within this IQ air health pro plus air purifier that will stop everything you are having a problem within your home. I must concur that this is for people who have serious health issues with their air quality and need the best. IQ Air health pro plus is used in hospitals and dental offices to purify the air where open wounds are present and to keep things sterilized.
Specifications
In the following section, I will go over the high technologies used within this air purifier. You will discover why this is the best air purifier available. You may even find yourself breaking the piggy bank to get your hands on one if you need it. The way IQ Air cleaners are built is also imperative as well. You will discover why this is below when I describe it in detail. If you have any other questions from the information I provide, please contact me.

Construction
The construction of the IQ Air cleaner and the rest of the IQ air purifiers is a bit deceiving for people that look at things from the outside. It is a hard plastic, and you can’t see the great features built into it to make it extremely efficient. The air cleaner pulls air from the bottom of the unit and drags it through multiple levels of air filtration with a fan that is positioned just after the prefilter. Unlike the 1 cm think prefilters you may have in your current air filter. The IQAir prefilter is a couple of inches of high-quality material.
One of the most important parts is how the air travels through the air purifier. It has no chance of escaping the process at any point and must go through the systematic progression of being filtered. The Swiss creators Klaus and Manfred Hammes came up with the beginning of this cutting edge technology when they created the first home air purifier in 1963. These IQAir purifiers are still made only in Switzerland until this very day.
Besides price and cleaning ability the thing that many people want to know about is the sound quality of the IQ air health pro plus. A lot of individuals like noise when they sleep, and others don’t. Nobody wants the lowest noise level to be something that is not capable of being slept through. I can assure that you will sleep like a baby no matter what your preferences are. The design of the fan, which is in between the air filters is done to reduce sound. It is suspended with rubber pads to stop vibrations that may occur. Also, you have a diffuser for the air output to keep the sounds it does make from escaping into the room and your ears.
Controls
You will love the easy to use controls on the IQ Air health pro plus. Of course, it is not a single dial that has three fan settings, but it has a lot more information with just as easy use. You have six fan speeds on this air purifier, which is more than any air purifier I know. Your timer that is similar to the ones you have on your temperature gauge in your house where you can set the times when you want it to run or not run. You can even set the specific fan speeds. It is truly incredible. Above all this, you get a cool remote control that you can use from your couch or bed so you don’t have to get up if you want to change something.
Fan Speed 1 – 40 Cubic Feet per Minute
Fan Speed 2 – 70 Cubic Feet per Minute
Fan Speed 3 – 110 Cubic Feet per Minute
Fan Speed 4 – 140 Cubic Feet per Minute
Fan Speed 5 – 170 Cubic Feet per Minute
Fan Speed 6 – 240 Cubic Feet per Minute
Ratings
When it comes to ratings, IQ Air has never been big on them. They are so good and widely acclaimed they have not been rated for CADR. I would guess that it would be around 300 CADR if it ever were, which is great, but it does a lot more than what that rating can measure. Let me give you a bit of information. For what seems like a decade now this air purifier has been voted the best thing since sliced bread, and it continues to do so even with an ever-changing market. Places like “Consumers Digest and Newsweek” and many other accreditation websites have given this all types of awards over the years.
What I think is even more significant are the people who are using the air purifiers and where they use them. Many hospitals choose IQAir because it is the best option for them to purify their air so they can minimize risk to patients from catching and spreading diseases. It is a must have for them, and this shows just how good the IQ air health pro plus is.
Earlier I mentioned that there are six fan speeds on this air purifier, which is more than most air purifiers on the market. The reason they have this is to give you some variety when you choose a setting. You may be away, at home, watching tv or have some bad smoke or smell that you need to get rid of. All of these situations can be fixed by choosing one of these fan speed settings. The quiet setting is definitely at sleeping level and produces minimal sound (around 35 decibels) so you can sleep soundly. The highest setting moves a lot of air and is pretty much normal to most air purifiers (70 decibels).
PreMax Prefilter
One of the things that are not talked about a lot is the premix prefilter. Many people think it is just a mere millimeter thin piece of fabric to stop air particles. Low and behold when they get the product they find out it is a couple of inches thick and has 25 square feet of air filter media. Not only is this great media, but it is 85% high accumulation media rated by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioner Engineer (ASHRAE). They have a mission to advance these types of technologies worldwide.
Remember that the prefilter is the first thing that polluted air comes into contact with so you don’t want some flimsy air filter media trying to stop it. For the most part, you just are out to stop large and medium sized particles. Of course, IQ air filters can catch things that are microscopic and much better than “True HEPA” air filters. This is the real difference between IQAir and everybody else on the market. You see their prices and are shocked, but once you see the difference in performance you will be double shocked! Also, know this will last you 1 – 1.5 years, unlike other prefilters that can just be vacuumed and barely help you extend the life of your actual air filter.
Charcoal Air Filters
I know you have heard of me talk about many charcoal air purifiers, but have never heard about one this strong before. The only a couple come close with the use of coal like the Austin Air Healthmate 400. However, it cannot claim anywhere near the same amount of air filtration even though it is in my Top Ten air purifiers list! It is important for you to know that activated charcoal captures odors and smells (stinky trash and hazardous gas) inside microscopic holes within its molecules. I don’t want to get too technical though so at least you get the point now. It is not an air freshener, but a bad air capture.
You may have heard of this technology, and that would be because it is used in aquariums and water filters. You may be drinking water right now that has passed through activated charcoal. Now you don’t have that heavy water smell or taste. It would help a lot for the people in some U.S. stated that high enough “natural gas” ratios in their water to light it on fire! Note that this air filter is called the V5-cell. It has something else in it that I will explain in the next section.
Oxidation Process
The second part of the equation with the v5-cell IQAir filter is the alumina combined with potassium permanganate, which is capable of stopping any of the hundreds of hazardous VOCs that could be traveling through your air. You could be at home with chemicals in your basement sleeping on the floor or at work with even more hazardous chemicals not being properly sealed or contained. All will be stopped with this oxidation process.
I would love to explain to you the oxidation process, but it is not as simple as you would help. A particular type of molecule is created inside the air filter that attaches to polluted particles and captures them in the V-5 cells. It is something you have to experience rather than being told. You have to have a bad problem to see all that it can do.
Air Purifier HEPA Filter
I believe everybody should be aware of the great HYPERHEPA air filters that IQAir makes. This air purifier uses this super active HEPA air cleaner to make it the best in the world. When you see the word “HEPA” you have to put the word “HYPER” in front of it to describe the amount of air filtration that you receive. You know that regular HEPA stops 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns. The Hyper HEPA air filter prevents 99.5% of particles down to 0.03 microns!
I am so happy to state that using HyperHEPA air filters is the way to go. You get the best air filtration in the world, and you don’t use technologies like “Ozone, Ultraviolet light or ionic technology” to clean the air. You are safe when you use HEPA air filters because they don’t do anything to the air. UV is safe as well as long as it is not hitting you. UV is the reason we were sunscreen in the summer.
Conclusion
I have said it once, and I will say it again. This air cleaner is the best room and home air purifier you can get. It may be expensive, but it is expensive for a reason, and it is still a deal for the amount of air filtration you get. I think for under $1000 this is a good deal if you have health issues otherwise why to spend the money. Well, I guess if you have the money to pay then it’s your choice.
Honeywell air purifier 17000 has shown itself to be very popular on the consumer scene. Many people have flocked to this air purifier once they learned about True HEPA air filters and how well they work. The other reason is simply the price compared to other air purifiers that have the same type of air filter. If you look around in some places, you will notice them saying this HEPA filter is permanent and cleanable, but it is not exactly correct. You may be able to vacuum this and release some of the dirt, but unless you have HEPA vacuum, I doubt you will get it immaculate since it is meant to trap the dirt and not be cleaned.
The Honeywell 17000 is one of your safe bets if you are short on money, but need some decent air filtration for your home. The price with the great air filter is a win-win for many people, and when they see the deal, they jump on it. Besides most people only have small allergic symptoms to pollen and dust anyway and don’t need the super powerful machines. If they have them, it would be like night and day. They wouldn’t even want to leave their home!
Specifications
In this section, I will go over the features of the Honeywell air cleaner. You will be able to see why this air purifier is an excellent choice for typical allergy sufferers. These are people that have allergies, but the are relatively weak; however, they are still bothersome and need to be dealt with. It will also give you some tips on what you might want to purchase if you want to spend just a little bit more money.
SURROUNDSEAL TECHNOLOGY
SurroundSeal Technology helps minimize air leaks and ensure the air passes through the filter to capture particles for efficient air purification.
INTELLI-CHECK ELECTRONIC FILTER INDICATOR
The Honeywell 17000 air purifier features an Intelli-Check Electronic Filter Indicator to remind you when to clean the HEPA filter and when to replace the carbon pre-filter.
Construction
The structure of this air purifier is a bit different from the rest of the usual air purifiers models you see. The general way of making an air purifier is by using a flat surface up front and sucking air through it. Others have used circular air filters that pull in from all sides for efficiency. Even others pull from the floor. Oddly enough this one pulls from the front and blows out the back, but it is still circular. I am not sure how this affects efficiency, but I believe it is one reason it is not up there with the likes of the Whirlpool Whispure 510 air purifier.
Low Noise Emission and Adjustable Fan Speed
The Honeywell 17000 has three fan speeds for you to choose from, low, medium or high. At low and medium settings, the air cleaner is soundless and doesn’t get in the way of your other activities such as working, reading, watching TV, or sleeping. When set to high, it is still pretty tolerable although those who are sensitive to noise might want to use this setting when they’re out.
You also get air filter regulators that tell you when you need to change your air filter, which is a handy thing. You can try to clean it and see if it helps, but it won’t last for long and will degrade the efficiency of the air filter if this is continued too long. I prefer just to buy a new air filter when it is time to buy a new one.
Prefilter
The prefilter is the very popular 38002 series that is made to wrap around the circular air filters like the Honeywell 20500, Honeywell HEPA filter 21500 and the Honeywell HEPA filter 24000. If you have used these prefilters before you will know that they are also pre-cut so you can take it down to a smaller size to fit other models. That is their way of needing so many different products for all their air purifier models. I think it is a very smart thing. You can also try to clean this off a few times before you replace it and it will make a difference somewhat.
Air Purifier HEPA Filter
The True HEPA air filter used in the Honeywell 17000 is magnificent for the price of the air purifier. You can look around and see that only a few air cleaners have this type of air filter for this money. After you get past all this, you have to think about other things like the prefilter and construction, other technologies and usage. All of these come into play as well in the situation and will determine how well the air filter will work for you.
Features
-Honeywell is the #1 recommended air purifier brand by Allergists.
-Captures up to 99.97% of microscopic allergens, 0.3 microns and larger, from the air that passes through the filters.
-Electronic push button controls.
-Three cleaning levels.
-SurroundSeal Technology helps minimize air leaks.
-For Replacement filter, 2 HRF-D1 filters are needed.
-For Replacement pre-filter, HRF-AP1 or 38002 prefilter can be used.
Conclusion
These “True” HEPA air filters stop 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns. This is microscopic and the naked eye is unable to see these super fine particles in your air, but they are there. Most dust and pollen particles are between 0.5 and 4 microns, so that gives you a reference point. If you want clean air when you get home, it is good to leave this running while you are at work and let it clean the air thoroughly, but you will need more and better versions for bigger spaces. This Honeywell is only capable of about 150 square feet, which is around the size of a decent bedroom.
Hamilton Beach HEPA air purifiers are a brand that has a pretty good track record. They all have HEPA-like air filters, which isn’t the best thing to have, however, they perform decently well for not being “True HEPA”. I think they could go a long way in performance by having a “True HEPA air filter, but the price of their air purifiers would skyrocket. Right now the price is optimal.
Hamilton Beach is a lot like Honeywell who have thrived on having an extensive appliance product base, but this same breadth has stretched them thin when it comes to focusing on quality products. Many everything is about the bottom line, and when it comes to producing quality products, the bottom line is not a good line.
Use in different filtration technologies
You will find that a Hamilton Beach air cleaners can be found using several different filtration technologies and can cover a lot of different situations. They do it all for a pretty good price compared to other air purifiers. It is pretty much their big selling point that they can give people the performance they want and make them happy with a fabulous price. I do beg to differ about the performance because inherent issues are within these air purifiers and yet they are so close to being a top quality product at the same time. I doubt Hamilton Beach thinks it will get a return on invest if they do focus more on this business model. Right now they are just letting the business run itself through old practices.
Hamilton Beach Air Purifier Information
The Hamilton Beach air purifier shown above is the most popular version because it doesn’t use ionic technology and it is the perfect size for a small room. Many people only need it for their immediate area so they will not buy 4-5 of them. They would just get a whole house air purifier instead of that. It uses a permanent HEPA-like air filter that you can vacuum clean. It has air filters that are made specific for smoke and pet odors with the use of their zeolite technology. The use of zeolite is not widespread and I believe Austin Air or IQAir uses this technology within their activated carbon air filters as well. They use a lot more of the material, but it is still the same.
Larger air cleaner
They have a larger air cleaner that does similar things like the compact version but has a bigger HEPA-like filter and covers more area. I think this Hamilton Beach air purifier will be suitable for living rooms and dining rooms that may be in an open floor plan. Overall it is not too popular because people aren’t in those rooms for over 8 hours at a time. They do have Hamilton Beach 04492 air purifier and some other similar ones in the line that are tower air purifiers that produce ozone. These are pretty popular because a lot of people are mistaken about ionic air purifiers and it has a sleek design that people enjoy having in their living rooms. Many people enjoy having a good looking air purifier as much as they like having a high-quality one.
Inflatable air purifier
The weirdest looking one is the Hamilton Beach Decor version that is an inflatable air purifier that is quite powerful. It is more of a fashion statement than a different air purifier. It has an HEPA-bag, which is a sac that collects the dirt that you are supposed to empty 6 months ever. It has LED lights that make it light up and look like a piece of artwork. If you have a reason for that, you should try it out. I will eventually get around to reviewing it, and I believe it will just be a joke, but maybe I will keep it as a new lamp.

-We liked how the air purifier can be set up in two different positions – horizontal or vertical.
-The small compact designs make this air purifier very convenient for rooms without a lot of space. It is also lightweight so it can be placed on a desktop or shelf.
-The three speeds are truly quiet which is what we want for a small compact air purifier.

Minuses:
-The efficiency of a permanent filter will degrade over time.
-The filter is HEPA-grade and will not filter the air as efficiently as a real HEPA filter. The HEPA-grade filter removes 99% of particles down to 3 microns in size where an actual HEPA filter can remove 99.97% of particles down to 0.3 microns in size.
-The air purifier is for the removal of airborne particles only; it is not equipped to remove odors, gasses, or chemicals.
Summary:
We were pleasantly pleased with this compact Hamilton Beach air purifier. The unit performed very well and indeed removed 99% of airborne particles down to 3 microns. We were impressed by the quietness of all three speeds and with its small footprint and versatile design it will fit nicely just about anywhere. An excellent value choice for someone who is interested in the removal of airborne particles only.
The New Comfort Model HMA/03-700 is a professional air cleaner that is designed for the hardest jobs. The commercial/industrial grade 03 filter will remove even the strongest odors from unoccupied places very quickly. While other cleaners just mask odors, the New Comfort “Knocks out odors at their source”. It cleans the air similar to how nature can clean. Ozone, being one of the natures most powerful oxidizing (odor removing) agents, attaches to airborne pollutants, and through the process of oxidization, breaks down the molecular structure and neutralizes, or destroys, the odor producing pollutant.
Usage
A commercial air cleaner is an air purifier that is used to service a business of some sort. It may be a hospital, computer hardware lab, a manufacturing company or even a dentist’s office. All these places need air purification to some degree. The reasons may be different from each other, but they are needed none the less. Some air purifier companies even cater directly to a particular type of business like IQAir does. You can check out some cool videos of the kinds they have at it air purifier.
Technology for air purification
Another difference that is possible is the technology used for air purification. Some places like a dentist office or a hospital want to get rid of viruses, bacteria, and mold so it doesn’t get into open wounds of patients. Computer Hardware companies don’t want dust and pollen getting on the circuit cards while they are being manufactured because it would mess up its ability to move information and electricity. These only need technologies like an air purifier HEPA filter, charcoal air purifiers, and home UV air purifier.
Of course there are other technologies that just haven’t been increased in size to work at these huge commercial buildings and are more made for home use. They would need to market it to them and make them believe their product could help them and some places have, but most consumers don’t know about them because they aren’t marketed to the home consumer widely.
Ozone air purifiers
The other side of the ball is ozone air purifiers, which create ozone to purify the air of mainly odors and smells. Ozone also attaches itself to other particles that may be bacteria, viruses, dust, pollen or mold and makes them collect and weigh themselves down to the ground. Some of these are even commercial electronic air cleaners that allow you just to suck in air and keep the charged particles inside the unit and not use ozone unless you want too. I think they give you the best options, but they are not made strong enough for commercial purposes.
Ionic technology
I will say that these are probably great for people that can stand to have a little ozone floating in their home, but you have to make sure you get a quality unit that conceals the ionic technology within the machine and to not let it spill out in mass quantities throughout your business and home. You also have the option of possibly using a photocatalytic oxidation air purifier that silent destroys bacteria and viruses and is relatively new technology that I am still currently testing for my reviews. Seeing that it has been tested and used by NASA and FEMA makes it even more appealing since you don’t have to worry about ozone production and yet you can do all the same things even better.

Conclusion
The one thing that is important is commercial air filters that you may or may not be using with your type of air purification. Even though some ozone air cleaners have carbon filters and HEPA filters just to add some extra cleaning ability to the device. One thing I have discovered is that Honeywell commercial air cleaner filters are easy to find for almost all air purifiers on the market. They make them for furnace air purifiers as well so you can get cheap and natural air purification through systems you already have installed in your house.
The blue air cleaner is quite a revolutionary air purifier if you are knowledgeable about the market. It puts together a series of technologies that work together almost seamlessly. The best part is they use quality products that are top of the line, which leaves little margin for error when it comes to consumer air purifiers. I believe it is a great air purifier that is hard to improve on, but could be done with a few more additions, but that would lead to a change in construction.
The blueair 501 air purifier is the mid-level product for blue Air air purifiers. They have the blue air 402 air purifier, which is part of the 400 series and the blue air 601 air purifier, which is part of the 600 series. The 400 series is the quietest of the three only loses a bit in CADR, and many people love it because of this. The 600 series is the super powerful version with a massive CADR rating. You have to have a need for its pure power. 500 series is of course right in the middle, but the fan speed and noise level are similar to the 600 series, which is loud, and that is a problem for some.
Specifications
In this section, I will go over the specific technologies and performance information about the blue air 501 air purifier. I will give you the information you need to know whether this is the type and size of air purifier you need for your home. Personally, this unit is expensive, but very powerful and should only be used by people that have a high need for allergy relief or medical issues. If you just want to get the dust out of your house, cheaper companies like Whirlpool air purifier and Honeywell air purifiers sell products that will fit your needs and budget.

BlueAir Construction
It is funny how much the Blueair 501 air purifier looks like a desktop computer that you would have in your office. I believe that is the feel they wanted so it didn’t look so out of place within your home. Fortunately, it is much easier to use and replace parts within when you need to than a modern computer. The construction of the blue air 501 air purifier is just like the rest and helps to keep the bad air from going around the air filters once inside the air purifier. The importance of this is evident, but it is something that is hard to see just from looking at the outside. The best part is the multi-stage process makes sure every particle is put under stress to be captured once it enters the blue air cleaner.
As you might know, this is developed in Sweden. Operating with the speed settings is simple. You don’t have too many options so you can’t make too many mistakes. I love simple designs on products. One thing that I think they could have done better is the grill’s exterior that air comes through. It is capable of clogging up with large particles, which you will see around 4-6 months in if you don’t wipe the outside of the machine down. It can slow down the efficiency of the device because it is not able to suck in as much air.
One of the easiest ways to tell if you have a good air purifier is by looking at the Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR). It is on every air purifier now. In the local stores, you will see many that are around 100 and that simply isn’t good enough unless you are trying to clean a small office or a closet. The CADR rating refers to room size it can clean. The blue air 501 air purifier can clean around 500 square feet. This comes out in three different levels (Smoke: 380 CADR) (Dust: 390 CADR) (Pollen: 390 CADR). These are the three top things they rate it on. As you see, 390 is WAY higher than 100. I will tell you why it is so high below when I talk about the technologies.
If you were wondering about the sound problem I mentioned earlier with the 500 and 600 series, let me give you this easy to understand information. The fastest fan speed for the blue air 501 air purifier is 450 cubic feet per minute, which makes 70.5 decibels of sound. The 600 series runs at 500 cubic feet per minute, which makes 71 decibels of sound. In contrast, the quiet 400 series runs at 240 cubic feet per minute, which makes 58 decibels of sound. Obviously, this is a bit difference in sound, which is why people like the 400 series when they have to be around it all the time.
Electrostatic Technology
The electrostatic technology in this blue air 501 air purifier is relatively straightforward. The air is sucked in from the bottom of the blue air cleaner and then comes into contact with the ionic brushes that charged the particles within the air purifier. At this point, the electrostatic air filters come into play. They attract the particles with their charge. The non-quality blue fiberglass air filters you have in your home ventilation system do a similar thing. If you still have those I suggest you upgrade to a high-quality Honeywell HEPA air purifier filter. This is one of the stages of air filtration that blue air cleaners make you go through.
BlueAir HEPA Air Filters
Now I must first say that these air filters are “HEPA-like”, but with the other technologies, they can do the job. With all three technologies working at peak performance, it is capable of removing 99.97% of particles down to 0.1 microns, which is better than “True HEPA” alone. Of course, it takes three technologies to beat the real thing. It is made of polypropylene, which is better plastic than the stuff you read about that is leaking from your food storage containers into your food. It is non-toxic and will not harm humans. Best of all it is not capable of being infiltrated by mold, viruses, and bacteria. If you have ever overused a humidifier filter and seen the growth on it, then you know what I am talking about.
BlueAir SmokeStop Air Filters
These smoke stop air filters are charcoal air filters made specifically for the blue air 501 air purifier. They have activated carbon built into the air cleaner to prevent odors and smells. I believe that the amount of carbon media is not enough to stop odors and smells because it would not last as long as the HEPA-like filter media. Nobody wants to buy another air filter just because the carbon air filter part has run out. In this case, you can try purchasing a separate carbon air filter sleeve and slapping it on the front of the air filter, but it would slow down the air flow a bit. This would weaken the CADR slightly. You can also just buy an air filter without carbon within it, but the price isn’t much different.
BlueAir 501 Air Purifier Conclusion
In the end, this is a great air purifier with lots of technology within it. Between the HEPA-like air filter, activated carbon air filter and the electrostatic technology you have one active air purifier. The construction backs this all up with a tight concealment. Blueair even gives you a ten-year warranty on the product because they believe in that much. I just wish that they had up air filter within it to stop bacteria and viruses cold instead of just letting them get stuck if they are attached to something else. At this point, I could contemplate purchasing this for a genuinely sick person. Otherwise, I would have to push them in the direction of the IQAir air purifier and its quality and performance.
