Harman Kardon Soho

Harman Kardon Soho

These Harman Kardon Soho slim headphones may be one of the most stylish sets of on-ear models around, but they can’t compete with established rivals when it comes to sound and comfort.

The model we tested came with a universal in-line remote, most suited to Android mobile phones. If you have an Apple device, opt for the Harman Kardon Soho headphones instead they have a slightly different in-line remote, adding the functionality to skip back and forward through tracks.

Harman Kardon Soho

Harman Kardon Soho

Harman Kardon Soho

The Soho on-ear headphones are very portable, so are designed for people who listen to music on the move but don’t like the idea of headphones that sit inside your ear canal. They’re one of the lightest of this type we have tested and have an ingenious folding mechanism so shouldn’t take up too much room in your bag.

Considering Harman Kardon Soho has kitted out luxury car brands such as BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Land Rover with its audio equipment, we had high hopes for the Soho headphones. Unfortunately, they were short-lived.

Harman Kardon Soho

Harman Kardon Soho

Harman Kardon Soho

While they are certainly not the worst we have ever heard, they just don’t offer anything particularly unique and are a little bass heavy.

They are clearly well made and shouldn’t damage too easily especially if you store them in the hard travel case when not in use. There are also some features to help make life easier, including ear cups that fold up into the headband, and magnetic pads that sit on the ear cups to keep the cable in place.

If you want so stand out from the crowd, these headphones also come in bright white or brown each with a colour coordinated chain.

These should only last bought if you rate style over substance if you fall into that you might also want to consider the Bowers & Wilkins P3. You’re better off checking out some of our Best Buy headphones.

Apple MGNV2LLA iPad mini 3

Apple MGNV2LLA iPad mini 3

There’s no question that Apple MGNV2LLA iPad mini 3 a fantastic tablet. It combines a fast processor and a crisp screen with Apple MGNV2LLA iPad mini 3 easy to use the operating system. It hasn’t made a great leap forward when compared to its predecessor – the only new feature is the fingerprint reader. Before parting with your cash, also consider the larger iPad Air, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 and last year’s mini.

It’s the third tablet released in Apple MGNV2LLA iPad mini 3 line. It has a dinky 7.9-inch screen which strikes the balance between providing sufficient screen space and being portable enough to carry around with you easily. It runs on the latest operating system (iOS 8), and it sports a brand new fingerprint reader (Touch ID) for quick and secure access to your tablet.

Apple MGNV2LLA iPad mini 3

Apple MGNV2LLA iPad mini 3

Apple MGNV2LLA iPad mini 3

It’s the most expensive mini available, coming in at £319 for the 16 GB wi-fi only version. If you’d prefer to spend a little less, consider going for the Apple MGNV2LLA iPad mini 3 which is now on sale for £239 or the even cheaper original mini available for £199. The only real difference between this and its predecessor is the addition of the new fingerprint reader. Located on the home button, it allows you to quickly unlock your tablet without the hassle of having to tap in code. Touch ID can also be used to authorize payment of apps, music, and films from the Apple store. We love using this feature on our iPhones, so are glad to see if make an appearance on the iPad too.

Aside from that, it has the same 64-bit A7 processor also found in the previous mini and the original iPad Air. That makes for a speedy tablet that should keep up with anything you have to throw at it. It’s frustrating that this hasn’t had the same processor upgrade as its bigger brother – the iPad Air – but in daily usage, you’re unlikely to notice the difference. It has a crisp 7.9-inch Retina display. That makes text appear just as sharp as it would on the printed page, and it’s ideal for browsing the internet and watching catch-up TV. It also looks punchy and vibrant, even when in bright daylight.

Apple MGNV2LLA iPad mini 3

Apple MGNV2LLA iPad mini 3

Apple MGNV2LLA iPad mini 3

The 1.2Mp front-facing camera is handy for making Skype or Face time calls as well taking the occasional selfie. And the 5 Mp rear-facing snapper takes photos that are bright and sharp with good color. On a full charge, you get just under nine hours and 45 minutes of video playback, or just under nine hours of wi-fi web browsing. It’s not the best battery life we’ve seen from an iPad but does mean that it’ll easily keep going all day without you needing to reach for the charger. As usual with iPads, there’s no micro SD card slot, so you can’t expand the on board storage. There’s no HDMI port either for a simple TV connection.

The Apple operating system doesn’t let you create multiple user accounts – so you can’t separate your apps and content from the rest of the family who may also use the device. Unlike on the Samsung Galaxy models, you can’t split the screen up and have multiple apps running side-by-side. That is disappointing, especially seeing as this is such a handy feature for those who like to work on their tablet.

Apple MGNV2LLA iPad mini 3

Apple MGNV2LLA iPad mini 3

Apple MGNV2LLA iPad mini 3

At the time of the launch, Apple made a fuss over Apple Pay – which lets you authorize payments at shops, cafes, and banks via the secure fingerprint reader. That certainly sounds like an interesting new feature, but there’s no set a date for it to launch in the UK as yet.

The Apple MGNV2LL  – A iPad mini 3 a fantastic tablet ideal for keeping you entertained on the go. It is expensive, though. For the same price, you could buy the first generation model of the iPad Air. Although it’s a great tablet, aside from the fingerprint reader, it doesn’t offer much more than its predecessor. So if you want the iPad mini, but would like to save a bit of cash, consider the iPad mini two instead.

HTC One Mini 2

HTC One Mini 2

The HTC One Mini 2 is a large phone that narrowly misses out on being deemed a Best Buy. It hasn’t quite got the impressive list of features found on its bigger brother, the M8, and we would like it to have a faster processor and longer battery life, but it’s a decent option for those looking for a small Android phone.

It’s a scaled down version of the HTC One Mini  2 (mounted hair both regarding size and specification). It has a 4.5-inch screen, runs on Android and offers superfast 4G connectivity. It’s a sleek and stylish phone. The metal finish makes it slightly heavier than other phones of this size, but it does still lend it a premium feel. Its 4.5-inch screen is rather small by today’s standards, but that does mean it’s comfortable to hold in one hand, and your fingers won’t be stretching to reach the far corner of the touchscreen. It is worth noting that some might find the metal finish a little slippery.

HTC One Mini 2

HTC One Mini 2

HTC One Mini 2

It has the same 720×1,280 resolution screen which is the same as its predecessor. While we were a little disappointed that it didn’t get an upgrade, it still makes text and graphics appear sharp. It’s OK for watching the video, but sadly not the best we found it to be a little grainy and the motion could be smoother. And as with many phones, the display looks faded when you take it outside. The touchscreen is fast and responsive.

It has a 1.2GHz quad-core processor; it’s a little slow and, it won’t suit you if you want to play graphics-heavy games. But if you’re content with browsing the internet and playing the odd puzzle, it will be fast enough.

The works on the latest version of Google’s Android operating system (4.4.2 or KitKat). Android is much easy to use, although it will take a bit of getting used to if you haven’t seen it before. Unlike Apple’s iOS, it lets you customize the different homepages. It also gives you access to millions of apps, books, movies and games from the Google Play store.

HTC One Mini 2

HTC One Mini 2

HTC One Mini 2

HTC One has overlaid this with its Sense interface, so it looks a little different to Android phones from other manufacturers and has some unique features. The most noticeable addition is BlinkFeed, which pulls together stories you force be interested in from various news sites and updates from your social networks. Drawing on a tile will show you the article, tweet or photo in full-screen mode.

It has two front-facing speakers which provide reasonable call quality. And it’s good for listening to music while on the move, thanks to a decent pair of bundled headphones. We found they produce clear sound with an impressive amount of detail.

Battery life is good it’ll give just under 15 hours of call time, or seven hours of web browsing. That is an improvement on its predecessor but isn’t the best around. It’s also worth noting that the One Mini 2 is a tight unit, which means you won’t be able to replace the battery if it fails.

HTC One Mini 2

HTC One Mini 2

HTC One Mini 2

HTC has ditched the 4Mp ‘Ultra Pixel’ camera found on the M8 and the original One Mini, and equipped this with a 13Mp resolution auto-focus camera instead. Overall it takes good snaps. One criticism would be the flash, which isn’t powerful enough and makes for dark and slightly grainy photos in low light conditions. It’s acceptable for taking the occasional video too, although you’ll notice there is some stutter with moving subjects.

And finally, it’s good for those who like to take the perfect selfie, thanks to the 5Mp front-facing camera this has a higher resolution than you’d find with many rivals. It’s tricky to insert the SIM card; you’ll need to use your fingernail to prise it open.Is there anything else I should know? Of the 16GB of storage space, just over 10GB is free for use. And unlike the first generation Mini, it comes with a memory card slot, so you can add an extra 128GB of storage if you need to.

That is a stylish phone, with a bright screen and expandable memory. It could be speedier, and we’d like the battery to last a bit longer, but overall it does a good job. If you’re looking for something a little cheaper and don’t mind sacrificing this phone’s good looks, then also consider the more affordable HTC One Desire 610. Tell us what you think of it to help members and improve our testing click on the Customer views tab at the top of this page. Pros: Sleek design, expandable memory, good front and rear cameras, good headphones Cons: Fiddly SIM card slot, slippery to hold, advanced users will find it a little slow Related posts: HTC One Mini.

Apple iPad Air 32GB wifi

Apple iPad Air 32GB wifi

You pay a premium for Apple iPad Air 32GB wifi products, but in return, you’ll get a well-designed tablet inside and out. The Apple iPad Air 32GB wifi lives up to its name, as it is exceptionally light for a large-screen tablet. The bezel is thinner than ever. Also, it resembles the iPad mini. Battery life is excellent; also the processor is super-speedy.

The latest Apple iPad has a 9.7-inch screen and thin design, and it runs on Apple’s operating system, iOS 7.

Apple iPad Air 32GB wifi

Apple iPad Air 32GB wifi

Apple iPad Air 32GB wifi

The most noticeable change, when compared to its predecessor, is the look plus feel of this tablet. Apple has slimmed down the bezel, meaning that the iPad Air measures just 169mm across – reduced from the 240mm of the earlier version. Plus it weighs a lot less, too. Tilting the scales at 469g, it’s 185g lighter than the previous-generation iPad.

Retina display

The Apple iPad Air 32 – GB wifi means with the same dazzling Retina display found on its predecessor. The 2048×1536 resolution screen is not the best on the market regarding pixels-per-inch, but it still produces crystal-clear images. Also, Apple has improved it slightly by increasing the maximum brightness. That means it now looks even punchier when you take it outside on a bright day, and viewing angles are great. If you’re sitting with a friend watching a film, you’ll both get a good view.

The touchscreen is accurate, too – so you don’t have to repeatedly poke an icon to get it to recognize your touch. Also if you prefer to use voice control you can always talk to Siri – the voice-activated assistant designed to verbally answer your questions and improve your interaction with your iPhone or iPad.

Apple iPad Air 32GB wifi

Apple iPad Air 32GB wifi

Apple iPad Air 32GB wifi

The Apple iPad Air 32GB wifi means provided by the new 64 -bit A7 chip, which makes it incredibly fast. The screen responds instantly to your touch, so there’s no lagging behind, as by some cheaper tablets. It runs when browsing the web, streaming video and making Face time calls. This processor storms ahead of the previous iPads in our speed tests. However, you’re just really going to notice the difference when playing power-hungry also graphics-intensive sports.

Since the first time, the ten-inch iPad comes with stereo speakers; these produce a small but nonetheless discernible difference in sound quality compared to the previous generation iPads. If you’re in a rush and only have half an hour to pop your iPad onto charge, you’ll get only under two hours of battery life in return.

On a full tank, it gives just under 13 hours of video playback or just under 11 hours of wi-fi web browsing. That is enough to see you through the day, and it’s impressive that Apple has managed to pack a high stamina battery into such a slim package.

Apple iPad Air 32GB wifi

Apple iPad Air 32GB wifi

Apple iPad Air 32GB wifi

Keeping with tradition, Apple has not furnished the Air among any additional connection ports. That means you need to choose your memory size carefully, as you won’t be able to add a micro -SD card to expand the on board memory. This is one of the best tablets we have ever tested. Apple packs with a beautiful screen also lightning-fast processor to a slimmer-than-ever shell. Also, what’s more, the battery life is but very impressive.

If the price tag puts you off, there are cheaper alternatives – especially if you’re willing to opt for a poorer seven- or eight-inch screen. Should a look at the second-generation Google Nexus 7 if you’re after something with a more affordable price tag?

Huawei Ascend Y530

Huawei Ascend Y530

The Huawei Ascend Y530 is a reasonable smartphone if you’re on a tight budget. The price (around £90 or from £8 a month on a contract with no upfront fee) is very appealing, and though the features aren’t in the Best Buy league, they’re OK. But the little memory and mediocre camera are the main drawbacks.

The Huawei Ascend Y53 0 is a cheap and cheerful Android smartphone. What’s it like to use? It’s a bit smaller than many new phones. It’s relatively comfortable to hold (the textured rear casing gives some grip) and use one-handed. The 4.5-inch screen is a decent size for watching films or surfing the web, and though the resolution (854×480 pixels) is pretty modest, it’s adequate.

Huawei Ascend Y530

Huawei Ascend Y530

Huawei Ascend Y530

The phone runs on the familiar (to many) Android operating system. Android is easy enough to use (though it will be a shock if you’ve never used a smartphone) and lets you customize the different homepages. That isn’t the latest version (it’s 4.3, not 4.4) but still has the key features, such as Google’s excellent Maps and Mail programs, and lets you download millions of apps, books, films and games from the Google Play store.

Huawei Ascend Y530

Huawei Ascend Y530

Huawei Ascend Y530

Sound quality on calls is OK but dips when there’s loud background noise. Battery life online is above average (we managed almost seven hours from a single charge) but a little less so on calls (we managed just under 11 hours). The battery is detachable, so you can swap in a spare if you run out of power or easily replace it should it develop a fault.

The 5Mp camera is about average for a budget phone. It has auto focus and a LED flash, plus a limited range of camera settings, but the photos it produces are unlikely to set your pulse racing. We also found it easy to obscure the lens when taking pictures (especially in landscape orientation).

The video camera is of a similar standard. It’ll do the job, but the footage it records looks blocky and lacks detail. The Ascend Y530 has a primary forward-facing camera for selfies and video calls. Is there anything I should watch pay as.

Huawei Ascend Y530

Huawei Ascend Y530

Huawei Ascend Y530

There’s only a tiny (4GB) internal memory of which just 1.77GB is available to use. You can boost this by adding a memory card (up to 32GB), but some apps can only do saved on the phone itself. Once the internal memory is full, you’ll need to delete things to make space. Otherwise, the phone won’t work properly. The weak processor and limited RAM means that the phone will struggle to run power-hungry applications (such as games). But web pages open pretty quickly over 3G (the phone isn’t 4G compatible).

Ascend Y530

The headphones have handy controls in the lead but produce a weedy sound. Should I buy it? It’s a good-value option, but if you can afford to spend a bit more, we’d recommend our favorite budget option, the Motorola Moto G. Show us what you think of it to help members and improve our trial crack on the Customer views’ tab at the top of this page. Pros: Cheap, reasonable all-round performance, decent screen size Cons: Tiny memory, mediocre camera Related posts: Huawei Ascend Y530.

Apple iPad Air 2

Apple iPad Air 2

There’s no question that Apple iPad Air 2 a fantastic tablet, but it doesn’t quite equal the score of its predecessor. That is down to the fact that Apple has slimmed down the device and in doing so reduced the size of the battery resulting in shorter battery life. Nevertheless, it still has an excellent screen, fast processor and a brand new fingerprint reader for quick and secure access to your device.

If Apple iPad Air 2 isn’t your cup of tea, have a look at our current top-scoring Android tablet, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5, instead. And if you’d like to save a bit of cash and want an iPad with better battery life, then consider the original iPad Air. It’s the second generation Apple iPad Air. It has a 9.7-inch Retina display, fast processor and it runs the latest operating system – iOS 8. It represents an incremental upgrade, with the only noticeable differences to the predecessor being the slimmer dimensions, newly added fingerprint reader and slightly improved cameras.

Apple iPad Air 2

Apple iPad Air 2

Apple iPad Air 2

At just under 440g, it’s light and comfortable to hold in one hand. It’s also the smallest iPad to date, measuring 6.3mm in depth (down from 7.7mm). The design is sleek and elegant – we think it’s the best-looking tablet on the market. The new A8X 1.5GHz processor chip makes for an incredibly fast tablet that’s quicker than the original. Overall it’s safe to say the chip provides enough speed for whatever app or task you throw at it, and there will be no lag or delay between touching or swiping the screen and the tablet reacting.

Fingerprint

The most noteworthy new feature is the fingerprint reader. Located on the home button, it allows you to quickly unlock your tablet without the hassle of having to tap in code. Touch ID can also be used to authorize payment of apps, music, and films from the Apple store. That has been a well-received feature on the latest iPhones, so it’s good to see it make an appearance on the iPad too. It’s worth looking out that this is not a new feature for tablets – some Samsung models have been equipped with a fingerprint reader for a while now, so this is Apple playing catch-up to ensure it stays in line with the tough competition.

It has the same excellent display as the original Apple iPad Air – 2. The Retina display makes for vivid and clear images that look sharp even when in bright daylight. Apple has added an anti-reflective layer, but sadly this doesn’t banish reflections as much as we had hoped. The 1.2Mp front-facing camera is good for taking selfies or making video calls to far-flung friends and family. And the 8 Mp rear-facing camera (up from 5Mp on the predecessor) takes snaps that are bright, clear with decent color. It’s a case of design over substance with the Air 2 as the battery life suffers for the sake of a slimmer, more waif-like design.

Apple iPad Air 2

Apple iPad Air 2

Apple iPad Air 2

You get eight hours and 45 minutes of video playback or just over eight hours of wifi web browsing. Although this means it will just about survive the full working day on just one charge, we were still disappointed to find that it doesn’t match up to the original iPad Air, which provides just under 13 hours of video playback or just under 11 hours of wi-fi web browsing.

As ever with Apple products, there’s no micro SD card slot, which means that you can’t easily expand the on board storage.

Yes – this is a fantastic tablet that won’t disappoint. The punchy screen is ideal for watching films and browsing the web. The processor is incredibly fast so it’ll easily cope with any task you throw at it and the fingerprint reader adds a layer of extra security as well as ensuring that you can access your tablet speedily.

Amazon Fire HD7

Amazon Fire HD7

The Amazon Fire HD7 is a decent cheap Android tablet. It doesn’t quite beat the Tesco Hudl 2, but nevertheless, it offers a crisp screen and good battery life at a reasonable price.

The Amazon Kindle Fire Amazon Fire HD7 sits in the middle of the Kindle range. It has a seven-inch screen and runs on Amazon’s version of the Android operating system.

With full access to the internet and an HD color screen, it does a lot more than Amazon’s ebook readers. It isn’t quite as powerful as the more premium Amazon Fire HD – 7 tablet.

It feels solid and well built. The 800×1,280-resolution screen is crisp and punchy, but it does wash out and become reflective in direct light, so for holiday reading at the beach, we suggest you stick with a traditional ebook reader.

The 1.2GHz processor is OK – it will handle browsing the web and watching a video. But it doesn’t quite have as much oomph as the similarly priced Tesco Hudl 2, and you might find it struggles if you have lots of demanding apps open at and that zooming is jerky.

Multiple User

You can create multiple user accounts, handy if you want to share it with the rest of the family. It’s safe for children too, as you can create restricted accounts limiting what the child has a way too.

Battery life is reasonable; you’ll get over seven hours of video playback or wi-fi web browsing. It becomes a bit hefty if you’re holding it in one hand for a long time.

There’s no micro-SD card slot, which means you can’t easily expand the onboard memory. That shouldn’t cause too much of a problem, however, as Amazon lets you store all purchases from its stores in the cloud for free.

The sound from the speakers is harsh – meaning it’s not great for listening to music. Also when playing videos we found that it left a 1cm gap at the side of the screen, rather than using the entire space. It doesn’t handle video calls very well; the Skype app froze during our test call.

That is a tablet designed to devour Amazon content. With easy access to the Amazon store, it’s aimed at those who like streaming videos and reading ebooks from across the various Amazon services. But the Amazon version of Android means that you are directed towards Amazon Fire HD7 content and don’t have full access to the Google Play store. It is possible to adjust the settings so that it accepts apps from other sources, but we don’t recommend you do this in case you accidentally download an unapproved malware-ridden app.

If you’re looking for a cheap Android tablet, this should certainly be in the running. But before you make your decision, also have a look at the Tesco Hudl 2 which just edges ahead regarding processing power.

Windows Mobile 6.5

Windows Mobile 6.5 is the user-friendliest WinMo ever made. Unfortunately, the improvements over its predecessor 6.1 aren’t big enough to make it able to compete with the other contemporary platforms regarding usability. Of course, there does some touch optimization but the truth does a complete overhaul implies needed rather than just the facelift it got.
HTC have done the extra length of skinning all the context Windows menus as well throughout the whole UI.

Features

With dimensions of 120.5 x 67 x 11.6 mm, the HD2 also enjoys the largest screen ever seen on a mobile, with a diagonal of 4.3 inches or 11 inches, the slab HTC HD2 proves very comfortable and has a high resolution of 800 x 480 pixels. A resolution grants an accurate and detailed for your media or Web browsing, with the large screen, big icons, and you can quickly thumb your way around the menu and apps.

On a Windows Phone, the HTC HD2 has a capacitive screen offering Win Mo unmatched and unexpected user friendliness. Windows HD Mobile 6.5 does not support this display technology popularized by iPhone.

We welcome the initiative and the remarkable work of HTC; the HD2 offers a tactile experience similar to the iPhone.
The only downside on this screen, the HD2 provides only 65,000 color limitation where rivals such as the iPhone provide 16.7 million color barrier. The HTC HD2’s Color banding is easily visible on multiple screens throughout the interface and some of the preinstalled wallpapers as well.

The HTC HD2 is gratified to see a pattern with a robust Qualcomm Snapdragon processor 1 GHz and above 448 MB of RAM to run Windows Mobile 6.5 without too much slowdown. The management of background tasks are still problematic on Windows Mobile devices; it appreciates the contribution of consistent Ram memory.

With a gross output of 1GHz, the HD2 is fluid to use. If it also shows efficient energy consumption, battery 1230 mAh seems undersized for a camera of this caliber. The result is final, in most applications, the HD2 sentence to offer a day of use. The HD2 comes with a charger / microUSB cable / USB.

HTC HD2

The phone supported microSDHC cards and handled full 16GB microSD card problem-free. For storage of data will, therefore, acquire a memory card up to 32GB microSD, the HTC HD2 is a typical high-end smartphone, you will find the connectivity, the HTC HD2 has it all – H.S.D.P.A. 7.2Mbps, HSUPA 2Mbps, Wi-Fi, stereo Bluetooth + EDR. It has not added 802.11n, but that is still in the drafting stages.

Furthermore, The HTC HD2 provides plenty of preloaded applications – an RSS Reader, MP3 Trimmer, HTC Peep, Facebook, Bing, Wi-Fi Router, World Card Mobile, Jetcet Print, a YouTube application and a Streaming Media manager.

A tablet for the Web

Its multitouch abilities make the HD2, the last web tablet. The high-resolution display offers a detailed and specific web pages and limits scrolling horizontally or vertically.

The HTC HD2 natively integrates two browsers, Opera Mobile 9.7 which has the multitouch and Internet Explorer Mobile 6, which manages the flash. We would have preferred a single browser incorporates these two features; it would have been more convenient.

Opera Mobile 9.7 shows a better Web experience identical to the iPhone 3G. The two finger zoom is remarkable, and Opera has numerous options such as managing tabs, favorites, download, copy, and paste. The menus are less tempted than the iPhone for example, but they are equally functional.

The main novelty is, of course, the flash management. If the video playback was choppy in flash on the Samsung Omnia 2, the HTC HD2 broadcasts without slowing down the Web videos. Streaming is still perfectible, but it is now useable! By double clicking, you can view the video in full screen. Again we found no crippling slowdowns in reading.
The HTC

HD 2 is the first mobile to offer a competent management of content in Flash.Windows Mobile 6.5

The HD2 is powered by HTC Windows Mobile 6.5. If we have not done convinced by the “new” operating system from Microsoft, HTC has bestowed its HD2 overlay software, HTC Sense.

Windows Mobile 6.5 is efficient and intuitive. A scroll bar at the bottom of the screen contains the primary uses (modern applications, the web, mail, stocks, photos, video, weather parameters) and it is also possible to scroll by touching the screen vertically or horizontally.

Customization of tabs is always possible, the capacitive screen you can easily navigate the various menu interface HTC Sense is a real success.

Behind The brilliant interface HTC, there are menus of Windows Mobile and sometimes it causes the bug.
In practice, the HD2 has apparently convinced it does especially penalize by the operating system, Windows Mobile 6.5, including the management of open applications and the lack of apps available on the Microsoft Marketplace.

If the HD2 is multitasking applications, which can cause slowdowns. Thankfully, HTC has given its HD2 448 MB of RAM allowing it to handle several tasks at once without slowing down.

It will be possible to download applications directly from the browser’s HD2 (application. Cab) or on your PC. Many applications compatible with Windows Mobile 6.1 are also with the 6.5 HTC HD2.

Beware of compatibility problems with an 800 x 480 pixels certain applications such as video players are not managed and cause crashes.GPS, audio, and video

With its interface HTC Sense, the HD2 provides privileged access to multimedia content. By switching the HTC HD2 in landscape mode, is accessed directly from the main menu to MP3 player mode CoverFlow. Very inspired by the iPhone, the audio player offers the same features and appears rather convincing. The sound quality remains pretty good with the headphones. However, we must not rely too much on the quality of reproduction of the single speaker.

For the video, things get complicated. The native player is limited only shows that the manager, Wmv, Asf, Mp4, .3 up, .3 g2, M4v, and Avi. If one wants to exploit the capabilities of the HTC HD2 fully, it will download another video player. The HD2 comes with the standard – unfortunately, the Windows Media Player is not okay performing. It only manages mp4 and 3gp also for DivX/XviD support you will need a third party application.

As mentioned earlier, the HD2 can suffer compatibility problems here; only the version 0.72RC1 A.R.M. P.P.C. functioned. With the latter, all you will read Divx without encoding.

By using a built-in GPS receiver, it also supports the Assisted-GPS technology or A-GPS so that you can download current satellite data over Wi-Fi or the 2G/3G network for a much faster satellite lock. The solution provided navigation; CoPilot Live is free for 15 days. This solution on board seemed to us very efficient with the ability to download maps from the HTC HD2. Multi point management implies implemented, it is possible to zoom in on two fingers on the mapping.

HTC HD2 gives it all to win including groundbreaking hardware, innovative software, high performance and robust design.
The capacitive screen the HTC Sense provides almost unique Windows Mobile experience complete with multi-touch gestures. The Snapdragon platform is what Windows Mobile platform was meant to run on.

Windows Mobile is still just another runner-up in the race for the last all-touch smartphone. The impressive user-experience on the HD2 is hardly indicative for the OS by itself.

The Sense UI and Touch FLO 3D have combined excellently well delivering an unmatched social networking integration (save perhaps for the HTC Hero), and touch experience did quickly compare to the iPhone.

The HD2 has disadvantages too. The camera is below par, video recording is poor quality, the limited internal storage is a real problem, and its sheer size cannot satisfy user comfort.

HD

The HD2 cannot justify its HD moniker. It cannot capture HD videos, and it cannot even play any right. Samsung Omnia HD can fulfill these things with a substantially lower clocked CPU, so probably Snapdragon doesn’t equal HD automatically either.

The HD2 should consider the two rivals of the Toshiba TG01 and the Acer neo Touch, both of them featureless UI customizations, resistive touchscreens, and less RAM. They both are cheaper than the HD2. However, HTC has done an excellent job of making Windows Mobile more usable; it is worth buying for extra money.

For those who find the HD2 is too big, you can consider Samsung I8000 Omnia II, for its more lightweight. Regardless of not having the brute processing power of the HD2, nor the RAM count, but the actual handling and response are excellent. The I8000 Omnia II has the 3.7″ AMOLED screen, another fully customized UI, large internal storage, DivX/XviD support and all kind of software goodies. It also has a nicely capable camera and it is cheaper than the HTC HD2.
