You can throw this small, light laptop into a rucksack and you’ll barely know it’s there. It’s ideal for a first computer, for college or school; specifically for browsing the web, creating Office documents and watching You tube videos. Anything more than that, and the laptop will grind to a halt. How long does the battery last?

Battery life

Battery life for the Acer Aspire ES1 111M is above average, lasting for around seven hours and 15 minutes when surfing the web, and six hours 45 minutes for HD video playback.

The design of the Acer Aspire ES1 – 111M makes it very portable. The keyboard is not too cramped, but there is an initial learning curve if you’re used to a full-sized keyboard, specifically the smaller-than-average space bar and arrow keys. The touch pad is smooth to the touch and is responsive to multi-touch gestures, while the left/right click buttons are firm without being stiff.

The 11.6-inch display supports a maximum resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels, which is as expected for a screen of this size. However, the screen looks dull and lackluster in comparison to other laptops, with poor viewing angles.

The screen surface is not quite matte, but it does include some material to reduce the glossy effect. The result is some minor reflections, which can be irritating.

The connection ports are limited, and most do position at the rear of the laptop. You get one USB 2.0 and one USB 3.0 port, HDMI, gigabit Ethernet, a memory card slot and a combination microphone/headphone port.

Anyone looking to buy this laptop as a more portable second computer should think again – it will fall short when it comes to processing power. It’s best used as someone’s first laptop or for school/college.
