These headphones make an excellent gift for the music lover in your life.
Design and features
This model looks very similar to the original BackBeat Go, which remains one of the smallest and lightest stereo Bluetooth headsets out there, featuring two slightly oversize earbuds joined by a flat, fettuccine wire that’s designed to cut down on tangles. That said, Plantronics has made a few small changes to the design. For starters, the inline remote/microphone has been tweaked, so the buttons are easier to operate by feel.
A flat cord connects the buds, interrupted by the inline remote on the right side. The remote has a volume up and down buttons, which also let you skip songs. There’s also a multifunction button for turning the earphones on and off and activating voice commands. The back of the right earbud has a flap of silicon that hides the micro-USB port for charging.
The BackBeat Go 2 have a protected and super lightweight design that makes these earbuds easy to leave dangling over your neck throughout the day. The entire device is coated with P2i moisture protection, making it sweat- and water-resistant.
Comfort and Fit
Three different sizes of ear inserts come with the Plantronics BackBeat Go 2. I went with the largest because they felt most comfortable and secure in my ears.
While the buds feel just as safe as the Sol Republic Shadow earbuds, the added grip from the stabilizers made the BackBeat Go 2’s feel nearly impervious to inadvertent pulls.
I also appreciated the distinctive icon buttons on the inline remote. Compared to the short protrusions on the Shadow buds, the plus and minus symbols on the BackBeat Go 2 were easy to navigate by touch alone. This made it easier to find the square multifunction button when I wanted to turn off the headphones after a workout.
Plantronics promises 4.5 hours of listening time on the BackBeat Go 2, and I found that claim to be accurate. After two days of 1-hour workouts and two 1-hour commutes to and from work, the earbuds told me they were low on power.
The Positive Aspects
1. Affordable Price
Bluetooth headphones can be extremely expensive, but the Backbeat GO 2 earphones fit into almost any budget.
2. Compact size
A mere half ounce is all the Plantronics Backbeat GO 2′s weigh. This small size makes them ideal for runners and joggers. This modest size also fits into the listener’s ear so that they can be worn with a hat or visor.
It’s difficult to find a sound of this quality for this price. Bluetooth headphones typically sound better than those with a cord, and the Backbeat GO 2′s are no exception.
4. Large, capable buttons
Changing tracks, answering calls and adjusting the volume can all be done with the headphones, so there’s no need to access the device continuously.
5. Incredible call quality
People forget to factor in the quality of call conversations on their Bluetooth headphones. However, there’s no need to unpair the GO 2 earphones when a call comes in.
A Few Negatives
1. Short play time
A full charge on the GO 2 earphones will only get about 4.5 hours of playing time.
2. No carrying case
These earphones are also sold without a carrying case which is a bit disappointing. Unfortunately, consumers must purchase the Plantronics case that can also charge the earphones.
3. Hidden Cost
The innovative carrying case will set customers back an additional $30, but it’s necessary to give the earphones ten more hours of play time. Twenty minutes of charging give the listener an added hour of listening time, and it’s compatible with the original Backbeat GO earphones.
The GO 2′s are incomplete without the available charging case, so the price tag might as well be $110.00. This is a reasonable price for a quality pair of wireless headphones, but it isn’t a spectacular deal. Anyone who prefers the earbud design over the exterior earphones should consider these as they’re worth the price. They’re some of the most portable earphones on the market, warranting this Plantronics Backbeat GO 2 review.
